USM and Universidade de São Paulo Mark a Historic Milestone in Metaverse with New Landmark
In an exciting breakthrough into the uncharted territories of the metaverse, Universidade de São Paulo (USP), one of the world’s most prestigious universities and the most important in Latin America, has established a landmark edifice within the USM metaverse. This monumental step forms part of a wider partnership forged between USM and USP, underlining the growing relevance of the metaverse and the potential it holds for the academic sector.
USP plans to leverage the potential of this digital infrastructure to construct various spaces for user interaction, including students, professors, researchers, and visitors. The university aims to conduct research within the metaverse across various domains, with particular emphasis on education and psychology, enabling them to evaluate learning and behavioral patterns in classes and interactions held within this digital sphere.
This partnership comes on the heels of another remarkable achievement for USP. For the first time ever, USP has ascended into the “top 100” of the world’s best educational institutions, according to the results of the 20th edition of the QS World University Ranking. The 2024 list, released on Tuesday, June 26, ranks USP 85th out of 1,499 universities, overtaking the University of Buenos Aires and marking its emergence as a leader in Latin America.
USP’s leap of 30 positions from its 115th place in 2023 is attributed to increased employability of its alumni and an improvement in its international reputation. “Brazil’s performance in this edition of the ranking brings a welcome relief after a downward trajectory in recent years. USP hits a significant milestone and enters the high echelon of global excellence,” said Ben Sowter, Senior Vice President of QS.
